Lake Erie Project Update

Our land lease is in place, we've measured the wind resources for the site, and we are in the process of completing our Environmental Assessment. Next we're choosing a turbine that will perform in our wind regime to put clean, renewable power into Ontario's power grid.
We're continuing our community bond sales to finance the project and sales are going strong.

200 MW wind energy "SUPERPARK"
Categories: Administration, 110 wordsSend feedback • PermalinkSkyPower a Canadian based wind energy company, with projects in the works that total over 5500 MegaWatts,has announced plans to develop the largest privately owned Canadian wind energy project.The project which is being co-developed with Hydro Quebec is expected to generate over 200 Megawatts, enough to power 44000 average Canadian homes (4.5kW).The turbines will be located at the Riviere-du-Loupe and when finished will consist of almost 200 inter-connected wind turbines over 17,000 acres of land.Phase one is currently under construction, and should be completed by the end of 2006. Phrase one will see that the initial 9 MW will be completed. The "SuperPark" project is creating over 300 construction jobs, and 20 permanent full-time jobs

Dookie Wind Energy Project Recieves Approval
Categories: Administration, 102 wordsSend feedback • PermalinkDookie Wind Energy based out of Victoria B.C has announced that testing has been completed and approved by the Minisiter of Environment. The project is to be built on a number of high-elevation ridge tops in the Rocky Mountain foothills, approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Hudson's Hope.
The project is valued at $300 Million and will be able to supply about 300 Megawatts, enough electricity to power well over 500,000 homes. The project is slate to start in 2009, and will create 600 local construction jobs, and about 30 permanent full-time positions.
This project will boost Canadian wind production, and assist in CANWEA's goal of achieving 10,000 Megawatts by 2010.

Blades Spinning in Southwest Saskatchewan
Categories: Administration, 102 wordsSend feedback • PermalinkThe long awaited wind project, which is now Canada’s largest wind farm is online, and producing 150MegaWatts, enough to power 64,000 homes.Prior to the opening of this plant Saskatchewan had only 22MW worth of wind energy installed. The is one project that the Federal government has been in support of, the Federal government is providing over $54 million worth of funding over 10 years. The majority of the money is being spent at a local level to help boost service and manufactoring industries. All 83 steel towers for the turbines where produced in Saskatoon.The wind farm is located 25 kilometres southeast of Swift Current.

Canadian Wind Energy: Update
Categories: Administration, 142 wordsSend feedback • PermalinkCanada has become the 12th country to surpass the 1,000Megawatt of installed wind energy capacity milestone. With 2006 just half way done, Canada has installed a record 365Megawatts this year, and its total wind energy installed capacity is powering over 315,000 Canadian homes. All provinces and territories, excluding B.C, are either producing wind energy, or have ground work laid to produce wind energy in the future. Despite the slow down in the wind energy industry due to a federal freeze on wind energy capital, provincial governments are pushing ahead to achieve 9,000Megawatts of wind energy by 2015. Larger new projects include a series of wind farms across Manitoba estimated at 1,400MW that are to be completed in 2008, and another large project is schedule to start construction in 2007 near Churchill Falls, Labrador. The project is expected to produce 1,000MW and provide power for over 500,000 homes.
